419 Fishing Academy
FAQs
What is 419 Fishing Academy?
419 Fishing Academy is an extracurricular course created to provide students with the opportunity to learn the sport of fishing inside of a Christ centered environment. Students will not only learn how to fish, but they will do it while linking those lessons and skillsets to valuable life principles found in The Bible.
How often do the classes meet?
Each class will meet once a month for two hours. The days right now will consist of Fridays but more days could possibly open up if the Fridays fill up and there is still a lot of interest.
What will the students be doing during the class once a month?
Each class will consist of a core biblical principle that is linked to fishing and life followed by a teaching block (casting, knot tying, fish ID, conservation topic, etc...), a game or drill designed to bring fun to learning a fishing skill or technique and followed by of course, actually fishing at the location!
Why are parents required to be at the class?
Being a parent of children that my wife and I homeschool, we are firm believers that the beauty of taking our childrens' education into our own hands is the ability to learn and grow WITH THEM! The sport of fishing is something that children will fall in love with and will want to do with their favorite people, THEIR PARENTS! That is why at 419 Fishing Academy, we want you to also learn these skills so you can go and enjoy their new favorite outdoor activity with them!
Where will the classes be? The course only says Broward or Palm Beach County!
One of the things about fishing in South Florida that you can be certain of is that locations are never certain! Due to tide changes, weather patterns, time of year, current water conditions and changes and even the unpredictability of the seasons down here, there are too many factors to make successful plans a year in advance. It is that reason that the locations are to be determined. If you are signed up for the Broward County class they will be in different locations throughout Broward County and the same goes for the Palm Beach County classes. The locations will be sent to the registered parents closer to the start date of the classes and we will make sure to notify parents in advance of where the next classes will be. While fishing is never 100 percent certain to actually catch fish, we want to provide the best possibility of success for our students!
What is provided for the classes?
All of the gear and bait will be provided at every class. We ask students do not bring their own gear so everyone is on the same page and learning the day's lessons. We want parents and students to simply show up ready to learn and have fun fishing and not worry about packing up gear and equipment before class.
What should we bring to classes?
While 419 Fishing Academy will strive to bring plenty of water for students and parents at each class, we do recommend bringing any drinks or snacks you think you may need. The classes will be 2 hours long so we do not plan for any prolonged breaks for meals. Students should wear appropriate clothing for the current weather conditions and we also recommend closed toe footwear due to the possibility of rough terrain and hooks and gear being in the area. If possible, a pair of polarized sunglasses and a hat are also recommended. Please do not bring any of your own fishing gear unless specifically requested by staff.
Can I use my step up scholarship to pay for the class?
